Your Questions answered with our FAQ's
What is collagen?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and makes up 30-35% of all protein. It can be found in every type of tissue, including skin, hair, nails, bones, and organs like the heart and liver. You could say it's the "glue" that holds everything together. Collagen is made up of glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline, the three amino acids that our bodies use to create collagen.
Why should I consume collagen?
Skin: Collagen is a protein that provides structure and support to connective tissues, including the skin. When we are young, our bodies produce plenty of collagen which gives us smooth, supple, hydrated skin with few wrinkles. However, as we age, our bodies produce less collagen leading to drier skin that is more prone to wrinkling and sagging.
While there is no fountain of youth, consuming hydrolyzed collagen can help slow down the aging process by improving elasticity in the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, increasing moisture retention, and boosting overall radiance.*
Joints: Collagen not only improves, but also strengthens and increases flexibility of your joints.* Multiple studies have found evidence to support these claims. Taking hydrolyzed collagen regularly can decrease joint pain after exercise and even increase cartilage density in your joints.* This is beneficial for endurance athletes and anyone who frequently works out, as high-impact activities can put a lot of strain on joints.* Regular collagen intake can support and protect your joints from further damage.*
Faster recovery: Collagen is the primary protein that the body uses for building various structures such as connective tissue in skin to tendons that attach muscles to bones. Its effectiveness can be attributed to the following properties:
- It creates a flexible framework, encasing new tissue while enabling movement.
- It acts as a structural support, holding everything together while other cells rebuild.
- It aids in maintaining tissue integrity and can integrate with surrounding tissue, facilitating the healing of broken or damaged tissues.
How much collagen should I take in a day, and should I take it every day? Is there such a thing as too much collagen?
The recommended dosage for Yonder® Collagen Peptides is 1/2 to a full scoop (equals 10 to 20 grams). A scoop is included in our canister to help you measure the right amount. Collagen is considered safe and non-toxic. Most people will see the best results from taking it daily or taking it about 4-5 times a week.* The great thing is that you can mix it into all kinds of beverages and recipes without changing the flavor, so it is easy to incorporate into your everyday diet.
What is the best type of collagen?
That depends on what you are taking it for! It is good to get a variety as they all can have slightly different benefits. Out of the five most common types of collagen, type I and type III are especially good for maintaining healthy hair, skin, and nails, supporting bone, joint and gut health, and benefiting the body’s overall cellular structure.*
How soon will I notice a difference after I start taking Yonder® Collagen Peptides?
This will depend on what you are using it for and the current state of your health. Many people start to see results within 30-90 days, sometimes sooner. As with most supplements, results are dependent on consistency.
Can I mix this into hot or cold liquids? Does heat damage the collagen?
Yonder® Collagen Peptides are formulated to mix easily into hot or cold beverages, and this amount of heat should not damage the collagen. Collagen proteins keep their integrity up to 400°, making them easy to bake with!
Can someone on a vegan diet take collagen?
There is no truly vegan collagen, as collagen supplements come from animal sources. Yonder® Collagen Peptides are sourced only from grass-fed, pasture-raised, Grade A bovine, and hormone-free and 100% non-GMO because we know grass-fed cows are happier and healthier.
Are there side effects from taking collagen?
As with anything, some people may experience mild digestive discomfort when trying new supplements, including collagen. If you are sensitive, you may want to try beginning with a smaller dose and gradually increasing to the suggested amount. That being said, collagen is generally well tolerated with few reported side effects.*
Are there any fillers or additives in your collagen products? How do I know it doesn’t have contaminants or heavy metals?
We never add unnecessary fillers or additives to our products, and our Collagen Peptides are no exception. Yonder® Collagen Peptides are 100% Bovine Collagen, Types I & III. Our Collagen is always 100% manufactured here in the U.S. with grass-fed and pasture-raised Brazilian-sourced collagen, is 3rd party tested for U.S. standards, compliance, and quality control, and must always be awarded a passing certificate of analysis before being put into circulation. It is always tested to ensure there are no significant microorganisms or molds.
