A practical, non-fear-based approach to lowering toxic load in everyday life.
Detox has become trendy in recent years fueled by dramatic testimonials on social media. While some programs can be beneficial and I’ve seen incredible transformations from professionally-guided cleanses they can also be harmful when it’s not the right time or the right approach for the individual. Sometimes just the idea of embarking on a rigid detox program can feel overwhelming and add to our stress.
A safer, and more balanced, approach to detoxification is to reduce our everyday exposure to the toxins that are jeopardizing our health. The good news is there are several very simple shifts you can make right away to effectively reduce the toxins in your body.
Here are my Top 3 tips!
1) Prioritize organic over conventionally grown produce

Conventionally grown fruits & vegetables are covered with pesticides, and no amount of washing completely removes these chemicals.
Pesticides can damage our healthy gut bacteria, increase food intolerances and contribute to the overall toxic burden of our bodies.
Shifting to organic produce will dramatically reduce the toxins in your system and improve your overall health. Organic produce also tastes better! You and your kids will want to eat more fresh produce when you buy organic.
I know organic produce isn’t always accessible or affordable. That’s where a resource called the Dirty Dozen comes in handy. You can easily find this list, published by the Environmental Working Group, online for help deciding where it’s most important to buy organic.
I also encourage clients to focus on choosing organic when it’s something they consume daily starting with their morning coffee. Conventional coffee is one of the most heavily sprayed foods in the world, and considering most Americans enjoy coffee every day, this is a significant health concern.
Thankfully, Yonder makes this switch easy with their Faith Farms organic coffee. It’s a simple and delicious way to reduce our intake of chemicals every day. I love adding Yonder collagen to my coffee too. Unlike other collagen products, it’s certified glyphosate-free.
Glyphosate is one of the most dangerous chemicals sprayed on our crops, so eating organic and choosing glyphosate-free foods like Yonder collagen is a significant step towards a healthier life.
Research shows that when you switch to organic food, your body begins to eliminate toxic pesticides within just a few days! It’s a simple way to begin detoxifying your body with no products, protocols or pressure – just clean food!
2) Ditch synthetic home fragrances

The air we breathe is just as important as the food and water we consume. While we can’t control all of the toxins in our environment, we can significantly reduce our exposure inside our homes.
Common household products like plug-ins, scented candles, wax melts, and room sprays can be a significant source of daily chemical exposure but one that is simple to eliminate.
These products promise to make our homes smell “fresh and clean,” but synthetic fragrances are made up of dozens of undisclosed chemicals. Some of these compounds have been shown to interfere with our body’s natural hormone balance. Research links them to disruptions in estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid function.
In addition, these products release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into our air. VOCs can cause headaches, respiratory irritation, mental health struggles, and even chronic illness.
I share this not to create fear, but to empower you. The world is full of toxins we can’t avoid, but our home can be a sanctuary of clean air that supports our family’s wellness.
One simple shift I made years ago was moving away from synthetic fragrances towards using essential oils instead. Diffusing oils can make your home smell inviting and also bring a sense of calm that you don’t get from fragrances. You can use them to make very effective, safe cleaning products, which brings me to tip #3.
3) Choose safer household cleaning products

Most women don’t realize that many of the products we buy to wash our family’s clothes, mop our floors, and clean our counters may be harming our health. We trust that the products sold to us have been thoroughly tested and shown to be safe, but unfortunately that’s not the case.
Many household cleaners contain endocrine disruptors chemicals that interfere with our hormones. This can contribute to fatigue, weight gain, hormone imbalance, infertility, and even chronic disease. Ingredients found in cleaning products like fragrances, phthalates, parabens, and preservatives are known to mimic or block our natural hormones.
These chemicals don’t just stay on our floors or clothes
